Midterm Presentation

Here is my midterm presentation.

I wanted to visualize one of the specialties of my Major which is Forensic Anthropology. Forensic Anthropologists deal with death so much that I wanted to honor the remains we handle and give them a sense of beauty and peace.

Midterm Submission- Week 6

My project is titled "Plastic Beauty: The Black Hair Industry and Microplastic Pollution." Synthetic hair is made up of materials and plastic that are non biodegradable and pose a threat to the environment as pollution grows. However, hair plays a significant role in the identity of many Black women, making an eco friendly solution necessary to come to. I have 3 exhibits in my proposal to demonstrate the growing issue of pollution that synthetic hair contributes to.

Designing Decay: An Experiential Fashion Collection (MIDTERM)

My project proposal is a nod to mycelium as a sustainable fabric as well as a novel mechanism for degrading plastic. In "Designing Decay: An Experiential Fashion Collection", strains of plastic-eating mycelium are genetically modified to express green fluorescent protein (GFP). The fluorescent mycelium are seeded into mannequins made of organic, renewable substrates displaying wearable garments made of plastic-based fabrics, including a cocktail dress, trenchcoat, and strapless gown.

5. Midterm Proposal

For my midterm proposal, "Chimeras: Myth Reimagined in Mice", I propose an exhibit that shows depictions of chimeras in art across different cultures and time periods culminating in a live exhibit of mouse-rat and rate-mouse chimeras. The aim of my proposal is to engage viewers in thinking about the historical and mythological origins of a new scientific research topic, as depicted in various forms of art.
